Before joining The University of Electro-Communications, Motonori Tamura started his career at Nippon Steel Sumitomo Metals Co., Ltd. Then, he worked at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Tohoku University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, and Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, promoting research collaboration among industry, academia, and government. Later, he served as a Professor at the Center for Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration in the university. He received Doctor of Engineering from The University of Tokyo and a Professional Engineer with metals as his technical discipline. He is the Program Manager (Course Director).

Kazushi Okamoto

Kazushi Okamoto earned Doctor of Engineering at the Department of Computational Intelligence and Systems Science, Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2011. The same year, he worked as a Project Assistant Professor at the Academic Link Center, Chiba University. In 2015, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Informatics, Graduate School of Informatics and Engineering, The University of Electro-Communications. Now, he is an Associate Professor at the university. He has been working in the field of data science, web intelligence, and computational intelligence.

Part 3. The Business Power of Data Scientists
Shiro Saito has been involved in risk management, marketing, and fraud detection data analysis in business operations. In recent years, he has been engaged in the training of data scientists and industry-academia collaboration. As a Secretary General of The Japan Data Scientist Society, he plans and organizes training courses for data scientists, seminars, workshops, symposia, etc. His publications include “Mastering Data Mining” and “Data Mining Methods, Revised Third Edition” (in collaboration with Kaibundou Publishing). He graduated Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology and is a Specially Appointed Professor at The University of Electro-Communications.


 

守屋 俊夫Toshio Moriya (Part-time Lecturer)
Part 4. Examples of Big Data/AI Applications
Toshio Moriya worked at Hitachi, Ltd., where he was engaged in research and development of multimedia systems and image processing at the Systems Development Laboratory. Later, he was involved in research and development of computer graphics and spatial information systems at the Advanced Research Laboratory. At the Central Research Laboratory, Center for Technology Innovation, he was assigned to manage research on artificial intelligence, human-spatial measurement, and robot systems. He is a member of The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, Information Processing Society of Japan, and IEEE. He graduated Doctor of Engineering and currently a Visiting Professor at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.

 

西牧 洋一郎Yoichiro Nishimaki (Part-time Lecturer)
Part 5. Analytics to Increase Customer Value
Yoichiro Nishimaki joined SPSS Inc. as a Sales Consultant in 1999 and as a Presales Engineer in 2006. With IBM’s acquisition of SPSS Inc. in 2009, he was appointed as an SPSS IT specialist in IBM’s software business, where he was responsible for the analysis of numerous data and project proposals and support. He authored the book entitled “Practical IBM SPSS Modeler – Analytics to Increase Customer Value” (Tokyo Tosho Co., Ltd.).


 

和田 陽一郎 - Yutaka ISHIKAWAYoichiro Wada (Part-time Lecturer)
Part 6. Business Decision Making through Data Analysis
Yoichiro Wada works as an Executive Officer of Data4C’s Kabushiki Kaisha and President of D4c Academy, Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of Data4C’s K.K.). After obtaining Doctor of Philosophy from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, he was involved in the social implementation of data science at Data4C’s K.K. and was in charge of various projects from data analysis to system implementation that incorporates analysis results. With this experience, he now runs a company that provides data science education services in the private sector, while also serving as a Visiting Associate Professor at Kyushu University and Visiting Professor at Hokkaido University. He strives to promote data science across the country, transcending the boundaries between industry, academia, and government.


 

西野 哲朗Tetsuro Nishino
Parts 7 – 9. Design Thinking using Artificial Intelligence
Tetsuro Nishino completed Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics at the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Waseda University in 1984. The same year, he joined IBM Japan and worked as a researcher at the IBM Research – Tokyo. In 1987, he was employed as a Research Associate at Tokyo Denki University. Then, he became an Assistant Professor at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 1992. He continued his career as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electronic Information, Faculty of Electro-Communication, The University of Electro-Communications in 1994, and at the Department of Information and Communication Engineering at the same university in 1999. He became a Professor at the same university in 2006 and was retained to his present position in 2010 due to reorganization. He received the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers Society Paper Award in 2002, the IBM Faculty Award in 2008, the Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2010, and others. His major publications include “Approaches to the P=NP? Problem” (Nippon Hyoron Sha Co., Ltd.), “Quantum Computer and Quantum Cryptography” (Iwanami Shoten Co., Ltd.), and “Illustrated Trivia: Quantum Computer” (Nutsumesha Co., Ltd.).


 

石川 豊 - Yutaka ISHIKAWAYutaka Ishikawa (Part-time Lecturer)
Part 10. Establishment of a Location Data Analysis Business
Yutaka Ishikawa was born in Niigata City, Japan in 1983 and started working at Net Age Co., Ltd. (currently United) in 2005. In 2011, he founded Nightley, Inc., where he developed a proprietary location-based data collection and analysis engine specializing in location intelligence, providing data on domestic consumer behavior and popular facilities in Japan. The company released “inbound insight,” a data analysis service for foreign visitors to Japan in 2015, and “LOCAL INSIGHT,” a service for analyzing local issues in 2018, and supports more than 10,000 companies and municipalities in developing their inbound measures and tourism strategies based on data analysis. In recent years, he has been focusing on MaaS, community development, and regional revitalization.

 

丸山 文宏 - Fumihiro MARUYAMAFumihiro Maruyama (Part-time Lecturer)
Part 11. From Data Utilization to Transformation Initiatives
Fumihiro Maruyama is a Senior Expert at Artificial Intelligence Research Center, Fujitsu Laboratories, Ltd. He graduated from the Department of Mathematical Engineering and Information Physics, Faculty of Engineering, The University of Tokyo in 1978 and joined Fujitsu Laboratories, Ltd. in the same year. He obtained Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering from The University of Tokyo in 1991. His previous roles include Managing Director of Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe from 2008 to 2012, Vice-President of The Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence (JSAI) from 2013 to 2015, and Auditor of JSAI from 2015 to 2017. His research interests are on artificial intelligence, solutions and services, including LSI CAD, knowledge processing systems, software agents, and CRM.


 

島田 啓一郎 - Keiichiro SHIMADAKeiichiro Shimada (Part-time Lecturer)
Part 12. Business Model Creation in the IoT Era
Keiichiro Shimada graduated from the Department of Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, The University of Tokyo in 1981, and joined Sony Corporation, where he was responsible for technology, product development, and business in video, camera, audio, and personal computers. He then became as President of the Technology Development Group and Officer-in-Charge of Research and Development. He served as an Executive Officer and President of Research Center from 2007 to 2019 and is currently the Corporate Executive in charge of Technology Policy and Relations. He has been involved in different committee memberships, including the Cabinet Office’s System Infrastructure Technology Committee, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications’ Innovation Committee, and the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association’s Technology Strategy Committee, where he also acted as Chairman. From 2016 to 2020, he was specially appointed as Professor at Kyoto University.

His research paper entitled “Assessment Model of Data Science” received the Information Processing Society of Japan Student (IPSJ) Student Encouragement Award. He is a regular member of the Information Processing Society of Japan and The Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence (JSAI). Takehiko Hashimoto is the General Manager of A.I. Strategy Center, GA technologies Co., Ltd. He is mainly engaged in data analysis in the marketing field and training of data scientists at Brain Pad Co., Ltd. He participated in the establishment of The Japan Data Scientist Society (former Secretary General). He has given lectures at Shiga University and Keio University Shōnan-Fujisawa Campus. His publications include “Data Science Exercises for Working People” (gacco), “Data Scientist Training Reader” (in collaboration with Gijutsu Hyoron Sha), “Statistics Guidance” (in partnership with Nihon Hyoron Sha), etc. He has been a Visiting Associate Professor at The University of Electro-Communications.


 

原田 慧Kei Harada (Part-time Lecturer)

Kei Harada is the Group Manager of Data Science Group 1, A.I. Systems Department, A.I. Headquarters, DeNA Co., Ltd. He worked at the Financial Engineering Group, Co., Ltd. in 2011. While engaged in data analysis for financial institutions as a consultant, he used his mathematical and technical skills he developed in data analysis competitions to open up new fields and train analytical engineers both inside and outside the company. In 2015, he led a joint team of internal and parent company at KDD CUP and won second place. He is a lecturer of data scientist training course sponsored by the association. He holds Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematical Science and a Kaggle Master.


 

中野 雄介 - Yuusuke Nakano Yusuke Nakano (Part-time Lecturer)

Yusuke Nakano is the Group Manager of Data Analytics Group, Nature Insight Co., Ltd. He graduated from the Osaka School of International Public Policy, Osaka University. He joined Nature Insight Co., Ltd. in 2014 after working as a bank clerk. He has been engaged in data analysis using SAS and Python, mainly in the finance, insurance, and real estate industries. He also serves as data analysis training instructor both inside and outside the company.

Shingo Sekine joined Nature Insight Co., Ltd. in 2017 after graduating from the Department of Mathematics, Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology. He is experienced in database integration and data migration with SAS, data processing, and data analysis using Python. He is currently engaged in text mining works such as document classification and text summarization using crawling data from SNS.

椿 美智子 - Michiko TSUBAKIMichiko Tsubaki
Michiko Tsubaki began her career at The University of Electro-Communications in 1989. After working as a Visiting Scholar in statistics at the University of Oxford, she served as Vice President of The University of Electro-Communications (responsible for admissions and public relations). Concurrently, she is the Director of the Admissions Research Center, Director of the Public Relations Center, Councilor of the Education and Research Council, and Deputy Director of the Student Services Organization. She is a Professor of Management Science and Social Informatics Program of the Graduate School of Informatics and Engineering and the School of Informatics and Engineering Cluster 1. She graduated Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering at the Tokyo University of Science.
 


 

Shuichi Kawano
Shuichi Kawano graduated Doctor of Functional Mathematics at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Graduate School Mathematics, Kyushu University in 2010, wherein he published an article entitled “Nonlinear Statistical Modeling via Gaussian Basis Expansions and its Applications.” His prior roles include Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Laboratory of DNA Information Analysis, Human Genome Center, Institute of Medical Science, The University of Tokyo in 2010, Assistant Professor and Lecturer at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka Prefecture University in 2011 and 2012, respectively, and Associate Professor at the Department of Social Intelligence and Informatics, Graduate School of Information Systems, The University of Electro-Communications in 2014. Currently, he holds the same position at the same university due to reorganization in 2016. He is engaged in developing data analysis techniques based on statistics and machine learning and research on bioinformatics.
 


Lu Jin
Lu Jin completed Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering at The University of Electro-Communications in 2006. Consecutively, at the same university, she served as a Research Associate at the Faculty of Electro-Communication, an Assistant Professor at the Department of Systems Engineering, and as an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Informatics and Engineering. Since April 2016, she has been an Associate Professor in the Management Science and Social Informatics Program of the UEC’s Graduate School of Informatics and Engineering. 庄野 逸Hayaru Shouno
Hayaru Shouno graduated from the Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka University in 1994 in the field of biotechnology. The same year, he worked as Research Associate at Professor Fukushima’s Laboratory, Faculty of Engineering Science, Osaka University, and was engaged in research on neocognitron and selective attention mechanism models. Then, he earned Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering at Osaka University in 1999. He continued being Research Associate at Professor Shiro’s Laboratory, Graduate School of Humanities and Sciences, Nara Women’s University in 2001, where he was engaged in research on optimization algorithms and associative memory models. In 2002, he served as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Yamaguchi University, where he was involved in medical imaging research in Professor Kido’s Laboratory. At the same university, he worked as an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Medicine in 2006. He became an Associate Professor in 2008 at the Faculty of Electro-Communications, The University of Electro-Communications. Currently, he has been serving as a Professor in the Department of Informatics. His recent research interests include visual systems, pattern recognition based on neural network models, image processing based on statistical mechanics approaches, and medical image processing. He is also the Chair of the Mathematical Modeling and Problem-Solving Study Group of the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ), and a Steering Committee Member of the Medical Imaging Study Group of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE).
